Admission to the Center

The admission process for Avalon Center is as simple as can be. Since we are not a regular college or university and do not need to winnow through vast piles of applicants, we can make the process less painful than at most mainstream schools. You will not be required to send in transcripts or letters of recommendation, but you are required to do the following:

  • Write a brief admission essay so that we can get to know you at bit.
  • Pay the application fee of $25 fee which includes the cost of a paper copy of our Student Handbook.
  • Include a letter of permission from your parent or guardian if you are under the ageof eighteen or under legal age in your home state or country.

Once you have sent in your admission form and fee, you may enroll in courses. To enroll in a course on-line, you need to create an account on the Moodle classroom system (click "Moodle Online Classrooms" in the left menu). Once you have created your account, click on the title of the course in the list for the upcoming term. You will be directed to PayPal to pay for the course. If it is a free course, you will skip that step but will need the instructor's "enrollment key" as a password to enter the classroom the first time. If so, you should see a message telling you to enter the enrollment key or to contact the instructor if you do not know it.

If you have any difficulties with the system (and Gremlins are known to frequent Moodle) do not hesitate to contact the Moodle Administrator or inform the Chancellor via our contact form (look for the owl at left).

If you wish to take your courses for credit and establish a permanent academic record with Avalon Center, we need you to fill out the Admission Form, which gives us contact information and some background on your previous experience and education. Although we want every student to succeed at our courses, we do not make any effort to screen prospective students regarding their preparation and readiness to do college-level writing or handle the volume of reading and study required in most classes. You can judge for yourself whether you are prepared.

Please click the link below to download a printer-friendly version of the admission form:

Once we receive your form, you will be sent the most current edition of our Student Handbook and a welcome letter. Most of the information in the print version of the student handbook is included in this web site. You can also download a printable version here:

You can expect to receive notice of your course grades from our Registrar two or three weeks after the end of each term. Transcripts of your record can be requested and sent to other institutions but you will need to speak to the registrar of the other school to determine if Avalon course credits can be transferred.

Be certain to read the scintillating Instructional Policies page and the page on Study Programs. You do not need to enroll in a study program to enroll in classes, but you do need to send in an Admission Form if you do wish to pursue a study program and receive an Avalon diploma. Also do not miss the all-important Legal Terms of Use.
